Moving your business process to online systems can be daunting. Up to 75% of e-business solutions fail according to the Gartner Group. And in our experience, many of our clients have had similar bad experiences with other development companies before they came to us.
Usually it isn’t the technology itself that causes the failure of the project. There are many shops out there that have good programmers and competent developers. Often the reason for failure is because there was not a fundamental understanding of the business processes of the client.
While this may seem obvious at the outset, it is really the most difficult part of any e-business system development process. Just believing you understand the client’s operations is not the same as truly knowing what the goals are at a high level and process level.
So how can you ensure that the e-business development process that you undertake provides a positive outcome?
Step one is for you, the client, to make sure that you have a clear picture of what your needs and requirements are, and that you can communicate that to the development team effectively. This requires both careful planning from your team as well as total buy-in from the stakeholders.
Step two is to make sure you have a development partner who can help you realize that vision into a real application or system. It requires both technical excellence and the ability to understand your business processes and requirements.
